Overview
Non-licensed asbestos removal, done properly and documented
Evergreen Group (Asbestos) Ltd carries out non-licensed and notifiable non-licensed work (NNLW) asbestos removal across Anglesey, North Wales, the North West and the Midlands. This covers materials such as textured coatings, asbestos cement roof sheets, soil and flue pipes, floor tiles and bitumen, cladding, mastics, rainwater goods, water tanks and short-duration work with asbestos insulating board (AIB).
Evergreen Group's founder has 10 years in the asbestos industry, starting as a removal operative before becoming an asbestos consultant. The founder and trusted subcontractors are UKATA trained for non-licensed asbestos removal, face fit tested, and medically assessed when required, the same standards applied whether it's a single garage roof or a larger domestic project.
This service covers non-licensed and notifiable non-licensed work only. Licensed removal, sprayed coatings, lagging, insulation, or larger-scale AIB work, sits outside what Evergreen carries out directly, and can be arranged through trusted specialist contractors where it's needed.
Smaller jobs are finished with a statement of cleanliness; larger projects expected to run longer than three weeks are set up with stage payments, with a deposit taken on bigger jobs.
Who it's for

The risk
Why DIY removal goes wrong
Non-licensed doesn't mean low-risk. Disturbing these materials without the right procedure still releases fibres, and getting it wrong is both a health risk and, for notifiable work, a legal one.
Fibre release in occupied spaces
Snapping an asbestos cement sheet, sanding a textured coating, or dry-sweeping broken floor tiles all release fibres into the air of a space people are living or working in.
Illegal fly-tipping of waste
Asbestos waste has to go to a licensed disposal site via a registered waste carrier; putting it in a skip or at the tip yourself can mean illegal disposal and a fine.
Missed notification requirements
Notifiable non-licensed work has to be reported to the HSE before it starts; skipping that step on qualifying jobs leaves you without the paper trail if anything is later questioned.
Common mistakes we see
- Trying to remove textured coatings by sanding or scraping dry instead of using a wet, controlled method
- Snapping or breaking asbestos cement roof sheets to make them fit in a vehicle
- Assuming floor tiles are safe once lifted because they look intact
- Mixing asbestos waste with general building waste in the same skip
- Not checking whether a job is notifiable before starting work
- Using a contractor who can't show UKATA training or a waste carrier registration
Our process
How the job runs, step by step
- 01
Survey or assessment
If a survey hasn't already confirmed the material, this is arranged first so the removal is scoped correctly.
- 02
Quote and planning
You get a quote covering the removal method, waste disposal and timescale, with a deposit on larger jobs and stage payments if the project will run over three weeks.
- 03
Controlled removal
Evergreen Group and its trusted subcontractors carry out the removal using wet methods and containment appropriate to the material, following UKATA-trained procedures.
- 04
Bagging and disposal
Waste is double-bagged, labelled and taken to licensed disposal via a registered waste carrier.
- 05
Paperwork handover
Smaller jobs are finished with a statement of cleanliness; larger projects are supported with clearance or reassurance air testing through an independent analytical contractor where needed.

In detail
What we remove, and how
Each material behaves differently and needs its own removal method. Here's how the common jobs we cover across Anglesey and North Wales properties are handled.
Textured coatings (artex)
Artex and similar textured coatings were used on ceilings and walls into the 1980s and sometimes later. Where they contain asbestos, they're removed using a wet, controlled method rather than dry sanding, which would release fibres into the room. This is often followed by replastering, which can be arranged through trusted subcontractors.
Roof sheets, cladding and rainwater goods
Asbestos cement roof sheets on garages, sheds and outbuildings are common across older North Wales properties and farms. They're removed intact wherever possible, not broken down for transport, to avoid releasing fibres, and the same careful handling applies to cement cladding panels and old asbestos cement guttering and downpipes.
Soil and flue pipes, floor tiles and bitumen
Older soil pipes, flue pipes and vinyl or thermoplastic floor tiles (often bonded with bitumen adhesive) can contain asbestos. These are removed using methods suited to the material, pipes typically removed whole, and floor tiles lifted using techniques that avoid breaking them up or scraping dry.
Mastics and water tanks
Asbestos was sometimes used in sealants and mastics around older window and door frames, and in cold water storage tanks found in lofts. Both are removed as part of wider renovation or tank replacement work, handled with the same controlled approach as other non-licensed materials.
Short-duration AIB work
Asbestos insulating board (AIB) is generally licensed work, but short-duration tasks, for example removing a small, isolated panel, can fall within non-licensed scope under the relevant exemptions. These jobs are assessed carefully before starting; anything beyond short-duration AIB work is arranged through trusted specialist contractors.
Residential vs commercial removal
Homeowners are the main market for this service, typically clearing a single material, a garage roof, a ceiling, a water tank, as part of a wider renovation. Landlords and businesses more often need removal coordinated around tenants or ongoing operations, with timing planned to minimise disruption.
Local North Wales property context
Farms and smallholdings across Anglesey, Gwynedd and Denbighshire often still have asbestos cement roofing on outbuildings, while terraced and semi-detached housing across Conwy, Flintshire and the Liverpool and Cheshire commuter belt frequently turns up artex ceilings and old floor tiles during renovation. Removal work is carried out across Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Ceredigion, Liverpool, Shropshire and Cheshire, and more widely across Wales, the north of England and the Midlands.

Related services
How much does asbestos removal cost?
+
There's no flat or 'from' price; every job is quoted based on the material, quantity and access involved. Get in touch for a quote.
How long does removal take?
+
A single garage roof or ceiling can often be cleared in a day; larger jobs take longer. Projects expected to run over three weeks are set up with stage payments so you're not paying for everything up front.
Do I need a survey before removal?
+
If the material hasn't already been confirmed by a survey, that's arranged first so the removal method and notification requirements are correct.
What proof do I get that the job's been done properly?
+
Smaller jobs are finished with a statement of cleanliness. For clearance or reassurance air testing on larger projects, an independent analytical contractor carries this out.
Do you do licensed asbestos removal?
+
No, Evergreen carries out non-licensed and notifiable non-licensed work only. Licensed removal, such as sprayed coatings or larger insulation board jobs, can be arranged through trusted specialist contractors.
Is there a guarantee on removal work?
+
Removal itself is confirmed with a statement of cleanliness or, on larger jobs, independent air testing. Where removal is followed by plastering or roofing work, any guarantee follows the manufacturer's guarantee for those materials.
Where does the asbestos waste go?
+
It's double-bagged, labelled and taken to licensed disposal via a registered waste carrier; it never goes in a general skip.
Do you offer emergency removal?
+
Out-of-hours sampling and remediation is available for emergency asbestos disturbances outside normal working hours of Monday to Friday 6am–6pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am–4pm.
Which areas do you cover?
+
Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Ceredigion, Liverpool, Shropshire and Cheshire, as well as wider coverage across Wales, the north of England and the Midlands.
Can you handle both the survey and the removal?
+
Yes, a survey can confirm what's present and where, and if it's within our non-licensed scope, removal follows on directly without bringing in a separate contractor.

“Local company who turned up as planned to give me an estimate. Then on the collection day, they turned up as planned (unlike other local companies) and removed my asbestos panels from a garage roof - thanks! Would highly recommend.”
